Coldplay - Viva la vida (june 17)

Coldplay Reveal Viva la Vida Tracklist
Coldplay, the self-described "very heavy soft rock" troupe you know and your mom loves, have seen fit to unveil a tracklist for their forthcoming Brian Eno/Markus Dravs-produced fourth LP with the silly name. Chris and company couldn't quite hold Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends to the nine tracks they'd reportedly been hoping for, but with a title like that, it's probably best to go big all around. The disc will be released June 16 in the UK on Parlophone and June 17 in the U.S. on Capitol. It will sell well.
Coldplay still have but a trio of dates on what will probably become a rather massive tour undertaking: a spot at the inaugural Pemberton bash along with BFF Jay-Z, and two dates at Japan's Summer Sonic festival.
Oh, and, um, LOL.
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends:
01 Life in Technicolor
02 Cemeteries of London
03 Lost!
04 42
05 Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love
06 Yes
07 Viva la Vida
08 Violet Hill
09 Strawberry Swing
10 Death and All His Friends
Coldplay:
07-27 Pemberton, British Columbia - Pemberton Festival
08-09 Osaka, Japan - Maishima (Summer Sonic Festival)
08-10 Tokyo, Japan - Marine Stadium (Summer Sonic Festival)
So..um anyone bothered with the free single? Comments on the cover art?

the cover art is great! good stuff.... not a big coldplay fan though, so haven't got around to the single..

Agreed, the cover art is pretty sweet. I checked out the single, it's pretty much what you'd expect from Coldplay, and it's not that good. Allegedly it's "heavier" but i don't really see it. I would consider myself a Coldplay fan, I've enjoyed each of their albums a lot, I'm not going to get down on it from this single. When they put out "Speed of Sound" in advance of their last album, i thought it kind of blew, but i ended up liking the album overall.

chris martin keeps saying its got to be listened as an album,it all works as a whole........we shall see,im a big coldplay fan though.

I'll give it a go when it leaks, for sure. But for the most part, never been the biggest fan.
Though, I did love that heart-tugger "fix you"...

I usually enjoy Coldplay's music for what it is. Kind of like rock's candy bar. Very sweet and initially satisfying, but leaves you feeling sick to your stomach if you eat too much. I do think "The Scientist" is genius, though.

I'm not the biggest Coldplay fan but I'm a total sucker for what they do. Even though their songs don't contain the best lyrics, Chris Martin somehow makes them sound epic and almost like they carry some kind of importance.
I'll definitely be buying the album though on the Tuesday if for nothing more than the cover art.

i think with Brian Eno producing, this album should be great. who knows though? Martin's lyrics are a little lacking, but maybe that wont matter this time around (like all the other times).

I heard the title track, wasn't too impressed. The site that had it got shut down right after they posted it. Coincidence?? Probably not.

Coldplay - Lovers in Japan / Reign of Love
Lovers…’ sounds a bit more like the Coldplay we met in during the Parachutes-era. But without a doubt, this cut of the song is lacking the final Eno-fied touches that we will be pleased to hear once the album leaks. This track does offer some excitement around the 2:30 mark; something that can sound amazing when backed by the instrumentation we enjoy on the album’s title track. My high hopes for this album are happily sustained and reassured by each impressive leak.http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=4D71EA3451C79057

Gave the proper Japan CD rip a go today, my first listen. Never really got into their earlier works, but this one's not too shabby.... It's basically theatrical easy-listening rock, and that's not a slight, it was nice and quite enjoyable. It's not top 40 pop, even if they do get a "hit" out of it, but it's something I think a lot of people (especially in the non-indie-world (for lack of a better term)) will get into and connect with.
I think they did a good job adapting some world music influences into the sound, as well as keeping their sweeping theatric with multi-stringed instruments and what not, i.e. evolving their sound a bit, but not too much.
Also, I think the bonus track (pretty piano version) of Lost is quite nice.
Yeah, I will say some of the emotional charges & some of the chord progressions in the songs can sound a bit "done before", but that didn't take away from the overall experience (maybe it's all that weezer I've listened to that got me quite familiar with using the familiar to get your song out). I don't get the sense there is any faking going on...
Anyways.... that's my Toonie's worth..
