Myspace Rips????
Does anyone know how download tracks that bands have on their myspace page when the disable the download function?

I think you record 'em via audacity, then export them as mp3's, just like with vinyl rips. That's how I recorded REM's Supernatural Superserious acoustic live thing of their promo site.

Is it audacity.com? http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and if you have problems, let me know, I can record whatever it is.... :D

I will try it out. I want to record the songs off of the Moondoggies & Pica Beats myspace sites. They are a couple new seattle bands just signed to the Sub Pop sister label Hardly Art. Hopfully I can figure it out! I suck at that kind of stuff!

Haha I've used Audacity before for my Spanish classes' oral recordings. Didn't find out until recently it can be used to record songs. I tried to record some songs on Myspace, but the volume of the recording is really low. Any way to make the sound of the recording louder without turning up the computer's volume? (Did I make any sense saying that sentence? :? ) I hooked up the microphone I use for my Spanish recordings to my computer, but it gave me the same result ):

i have previously asked someone to pull songs from myspace for me too. it's true the volume/quality is lower. i have no idea how to do this, even though i have audacity. i'm hoping i'll figure it out someday.

on audacity you can up the volume on your recording some over the the left side of the recording... I usually bump the vinyl rips to +3 or +6... But yeah, myspace volumes can be shit.

Just apply replaygain to knock up the volume.

how'd it work out, lysol?

I use this little Firefox extension - http://www.downloadhelper.net/ You have to rename the files and let them play all the way till the end but it works. :)

Was -*test*-('")ing out a new player and discovered it records whatever stream is playing too. :) http://www.aimp.ru/index.php?newlang=english

that's handy! use audacity for any streaming only songs.. but this sounds much faster.

I actually prefer the Firefox plug-in because its downloading the file rather than recording it, but it doesn't work on quicktime or embedded flash players.

The other methods above are easier, but this give you more professional control. 1. Go to the MySpace site you wish to steal the song from. 2. Download “Audacity” from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ 3. Change the setting from “Microphone” to “Stereo Mixer” 4. Make sure the microphone volume (if you have one) is on 0 (or failing that 0.1 which may make it slightly bad quality” 5. Listen to the whole song whilst recording it with Audacity. 6. Delete any parts at the start or end where there’s no sound (optional) 7. Export to MP3 or WAV file. Continue reading for a video on how to do it if you’re unsure on the steps above. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYVwz2ooMOQ
