Need A Good Pair of Headphones.. Not sure if this is the right part of the forum to post this. But since I use my headphones to listen mostly to vinyl, I thought I would ask.
I'm in the market to buy a good pair of headphones. Right now I am looking at getting the Sennheiser HD-650. I know, they are expensive. However, while they are usually $599 (from sennheiser) and $480 (from amazon) - I can get them for $320 new.
So I guess my questions is, are these good headphones? Should I be talked out of them? Also, I have read on other sites, you need to get a good headhpone amp to make higher end models like these to be worth while. Any suggestions on a good Amp that is at least $200?
Lastly, what do you guys use?
*sorry for all the questions.

Right now, my best are a pair of simply sony's. I hope to get some fancy ones soon, like those bose ones that cut out hte outside noise...
Hopefully, someone with more headphone experience can help out..

Sounds like a great deal! Those are so highly rated and get great reviews. At that price, they are about the same as 590s, but much better.
I'm looking for some myself, not in the same class, probably these Grados

The seins are very good phones for jazz/classical. And yea..they have fairly high impedences..so u need a good mini amp to drive em.
I use a pair of grados SR 80...cheap..and they fit perfectly for rock shit. If i don't wish to blast from my jvc woodies, i'll use my grados..they can bring your old rock records sound alive. And new. :)

the sennheisers are amazing. I am a classical recording engineer/producer and also a musician. I have found the senns to be really nice for any sort of music, not just classical or jazz. they are my second favorites next to my STAX phones.
get a good DAC too.

I want to look into a good pair of headphones myself. The most I've spent on a pair was $40 and the quality gives away its price
tsuru, if you are looking at entry-level phones you cant really go past the sennheiser hd515 or 555s....picked mine up for about $120 AUD off ebay, British listing. (Unless ur in britain, they have to refund you the 20% they take out for Value Added Tax.)
i changed over from a pair of sonys and... omg. never buying sony again after seeing the light.
and as my dad always said, if you think you can tell the difference between high-ends then... you're a wanker...:)
the market makes a shitload of money out of faux-"audiophiles" that listen to one or two records a week... (no offence to real engineers who actually need hyper-expensive shit.)
EDIT: anyone know the name of those $60 dollar KOSS phones with the clip ons that people were making a fuss over not too long ago? i need some portables. for the bus, and stuff.
