Whatcha reeeeadin'?
I mentioned this on tsururadio, and eventhough baby's the big reader in the family, I do try to keep at it. Right now I'm reading Peter Guralnick's biography on Sam Cooke. http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Boogie-Triumph-Sam-Cooke/dp/0316377945 Very well written, though it's still very early in the book. Haven't read a bio in forever (last two were when I was around 18 or so, ready the Simon & Garfunkel bio and the Groucho Marx bio (incredible story). So... whatcha reeeeeeadin'?

I was just about to make a book thread last night! I recently finished reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. It's a novel of love and loneliness, set in japan in the 60s. Music is a very important and ever present aspect of this book, as evidenced by the title. This is the second book of his I've read, the first being A Wild Sheep Chase. Where that books was comical and abstract in its writing, Norwegian Wood has a more somber introspective tone, as Toru can't decide between the safe, girl from home, or the exciting new one he meets at college. Highly recommended!

Ooo... interesting! Baby's got a thing for japanese writers. One of my favorite books is a japanese one: http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Royale-Koushun-Takami/dp/156931778X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206021498&sr=1-1 INCREDIBLE! Lord of the flies, but more fucked up....

Just finished this up this morning: Sort of an absurd corporate satire, presenting the idea that corporations are by definition absurd. If anyone sits in a cube wondering what the hell they are doing there (like I do)...this may help you regain some sanity. Very funny and a quick read, I liked this guy's writing style - not dumbed down but definitely a page-turner.

It's a bit different in tone, more of an action book, but with plenty of political and business satire. He even has a nation simulator game loosly based on the book. You're the ruler of a nation, and from issues you recieve every day, you can shape your nation into anything from a democracy to a anarchic free state! Tons o' fun! Nation States

"Wind Up" is definitely his masterpiece. That & "Norwegian" are probably my 2 faves. But I also enjoyed "Kafka on the Shore" & "Wild Sheep Chase". Along the same line as "Wind Up" in a book called "Amrita" by Banana Yoshimoto. I just love how lyrical books become when translated from Japanese into English. I just finished reading "Geisha: A Life" by Mineko Iwasaki, which was a geniune account of a woman who lived as a geisha and that was really interesting as well.
