So I have already posted this on the WP forum and on UKK so my apologies if you have already seen this. Here is what happened when I saw them in SF last night.
It was fucking great... Here is how it goes...
Exceptional. Amazing. Phenomenal. Wolf Parade rocked the hell out of The Fillmore last night. Oh what a night. So many good things to tell, I don’t know where to start.
I’m a bad fan. I didn’t pre-purchase my tickets. I had kept my eye on the website which still hadn’t sold out by the time I left for the show. However, to my distress, I arrived at the venue to see a Sold Out sign in the window. Gasp. Ugggh, why, oh why didn’t I buy tickets in advance? (Because I’m too cheap to pay the service fee!)
So I am hanging around outside knowing that I have to get into the show. My husband talks to the touts who are ridiculously asking $60 a ticket (original price $22.50). No way am I going to buy a ticket off of one of them.
Oh! Who’s that I see walk by, it’s Hadji! I told him “Congratulations on the sold out show!” (Hint Hint!) He says thanks, but then jumps on the bus that’s parked right out front.
After a few more minutes of hanging around, I am getting a bit anxious about getting into the show. I started asking people who were picking up tickets at Will Call if they had a spare. At this point, I see Hadji talking to some people by the ticket window and writing something on a piece of paper. I thought he was signing an autograph, but as I was right next to him I looked and saw he was filling out the Guest List! “Oh,” I say to him quietly and nicely from the side, “Please can you add one more?” And the superstar saviour that he is, Hadji says “Sure why not, what’s your name?” Oh happy day! I am on the guest list (+1) :D
So we are in! Yay! You guys know how excited I was right? I look at the merchandise (three different WP shirts and a hoodie) and decide to buy two shirts to support the band since I didn’t have to pay entry. I got the light blue one with the devil guy saying Wolf Parade across it and got the grey shirt with the line drawing of the guy beating back wolves (beasts).
I go upstairs (The Fillmore is a great venue) and get a beer and start looking at all the posters they have up of past shows. Here comes Dan. Not even on purpose (I wasn’t stalking him I swear), he is walking right towards me and my husband so we say hi and ask if he remembers meeting us at the last show. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Dan is just one of the most gracious rock stars that ever could be. He talks to us and patiently answers all of my husband’s quick fire questions (Is this your last Wolf Parade album? No. What are you working on? He jammed with the guy from Modest Mouse the day before and that was really great. What are you doing after this? More Handsome Furs! Does Alexei travel with you on tour? No, but Hadji’s mom is here!) We already knew Hadji’s mom was there because she actually had said Hi to my husband outside while we still hanging around looking for a ticket. He was tempted to ask Hadji’s mom for help with a ticket but didn’t.
So we talk to Dan about some other stuff but we don’t want to delay him too much and he’s off to get a drink. Wow, I’ve already had a ton of fun and the show hasn’t even started yet! :o
The opening band was Listening Party and they were alright. Not as good as Holy Fuck who opened for them last time, but they had their moments. Lots of drums and stuff which were really nice, but they lost me sometimes. The drummer, who also sings, plays drums on a plastic bucket and garbage bin and has a bass drum upright. That was kind of cool, but they need to ease up on the maracas a bit.
Then comes Wolf Parade! Finally! Here’s the setlist as I remember…
God’s Hands (Sons and Daughters)
Soldier’s Grin
Call It A Ritual
Grey Estates
Father’s Son (You Are A Runner)
Language City
Animal In Your Care
Shine A Light
Bang Your Drum into (?)
Grounds For Divorce
Fine Young Cannibals
California Dreamer
This Heart’s On Fire
Kissing The Beehive
Encore:
It’s A Curse
I’ll Believe In Anything
Fancy Claps
The last two songs were insane. The whole show was top quality. They rock and rolled so hard and everything was fun and all the songs were enhanced and amazing. As my sig says, “I am amazed at how they go!” I just cannot say in words how great the show was. I know, I am preaching to the choir here, but honestly, how can they be any better!?!
The crowd was great, a lot of people danced, and the band thanked us a number of times. Oh, and topless chick was there again! I laughed when she pulled her top off, I think it was during This Heart’s On Fire. The whole show was crazy good.
After Bang Your Drum, Spencer went into a little bit of a song I didn’t recognize. I recorded it on my camera, but am at work right now so will upload later. I am hoping someone knows what it is or perhaps it’s new!
On the way out, The Fillmore gives out posters for the show. I'll post a picture later.
Hadji is the swee-*test*-('") of hearts for adding me to the guest list. Wolf Parade, you fucking rock! Such a great show! :)

:( when oh when will they come down under. hmmmmmph
I had a really cool WP moment yesterday when i was pruning olive trees - the worst job imaginable. so tedious and repetitive.
Anyway i was getting the shits with being there and just how sucky my day was so i put on At Mount Zoomer and whamo! - everything was good again.
About 3hrs later i realised the sun was almost down and id listened to it 4 times through and had got so much more work done than i had expected to.

I will see them if they come my way. I want to hear all of AMZ live!
